14th May 2006: Rainy Repton cancellation stalls start to season
Well, what we didn't need was a wash out at Repton. God, clearly wasn't a club cricketer. If he was it wouldn't have been beautiful all week and shocking over the weekend.
With so much to look forward to, this was a big disappointment and ofcourse delays the commencement of the season. This will have a knock on effect on Fantasy Cricket which will not now commence until May 28th…our next fixture, against Calverton.
Keen Fantasy players will have tough choices to make if they want a flier as the mighty Mr Cross is unavailable! Also worth noting Andy has decided to book a fortnights holiday to ‘incorporate' this fixture. Those that were there last year will understand that Andy's holiday planner was always gonna fall in the weekend when we played Calverton!
Pleased to take feedback from el Tel that Adey Cooper is looking to play as ‘much as possible' which is great news having seen his super knock at Eastwood and quality glovemanship. This will lead to Crossy being thrust back into the field and therefore we can look forward to seeing him pull one or two of his textbook slide and throw all in one jobs. Emma will have to stock up on soap powder.
Calverton should see the debut of Paul Atkins, who approached us to join via ‘the web'…he came to all three nets and once he had dusted the cobwebs off (not played for a while) he shaped up quite nicely. Whilst he may not challenge our regular sloggers for the end of season batting gongs, he certainly has the opportunity of being the best turned out, with more new kit than you can throw a stick at….watch out Dean!
Bit of dissent over the winter with Richard Brown aggressively emailing the Golden Udder to complain about the Eastwood match report…it appears his run out was not mentioned. The Udder can only say sorry for this innocent mistake to Richard, but must point out that if he had got runs or indeed wickets (as I believe these are the key areas of the game) there would undoubtedly have been a mention. The words straws and clutching spring to the Udder's mind. However I am sure that new bat of Richards will do the business before too long (could always lend it Crossy if not).
See Nick has signed up on Saturdays for Elvaston castle, which may adversely affect his Sunday availability, due to Cup commitments. Fingers crossed they get a tough draw away early on. Always been a good sport me.
Put the call in to Alec telling of the cancellation at Repton. He was ofcourse gutted having just got his pre-match brunch on board. I understand it was an F.E.B. of belly busting proportions, accompanied by brown toast – its much better for you.
Anyway, back soon, Paul
